Title: Front Drums and Spindle ID?
Post by: KevinK on January 03, 2017, 03:06:53 PM
Can anyone identify these front drum brakes and spindles? I acquired them with some other 67 parts. These don't seem to match up with what's on my 67 small block car. There were some 69 parts in the box too.

The drums seem to be very nice Fomoco parts. Brakes measured to be 10" x 2.5". Do they have any value?
Thanks.

On the inside of the bar that goes to the upper ball joint there "may" be a casting number. On the right side of my 64-66 V8 spindles, it's visible in three lines, C5DA/3107/B, with the FOMOCO oval. The left hand side is messed up, not legible. On your second picture, the LH side, that area seems to be covered with a sealant. Do some scraping on both.

Will do.

I was hoping someone would tell me the 10x2.5" finned drums were 69-70.

I didn't see any finned drums in the three pictures you posted

Sorry, I thought the pictures showed more.  I see the parts book mentions a flared drum.

Did you try the search feature??

Try "finned drum" or "finned front drum"   ;)

Ah, the search showed some discussions that finned drums likely start in 68. No sure how to read the codes in the drum casting B52 and screw in plate of J4. I might guess Bendix and 4 the week of 69?

The guy I got the parts from also had a 69 Mach 1 which I might guess these were left over parts.

I guess I need to look at the spindles closer for details.

Will the wheel bearings give any clues? I thought I recall the wheel bearings changing in 70.  I don't have a use for these and it would be helpful to know what they will fit for marketing purposes.

Check the casting number on the spindles. C60... drum brake spindles were used through 1969.

Ok, I now have a photo. Backside of the vertical portion of the spindle.  I see C60. Per the previous post, that would make them 1969.
