Title: 68 NJ Trunk Finishes
Post by: dave6768 on June 04, 2011, 09:51:52 PM
NJ July car.  Need to know correct finishes on the following parts in the trunk:

Truck lid catch - I think it's clear zinc.
Trunk lid catch bolts - no clue
Trunk latch attaching screws - no clue
Tail light bucket - I think it's clear zinc
Tail light housing - I think it's yellow diachromate

I was surprised to find out the tail light buckets were two piece in 68.  My 67's are one piece which makes it harder to plate.

Thanks,

Dave

The tail light bucket housings are zinc dichromate as is a small screw which attaches wiring harness to latch support member I believe.

Dave,

Finishes
trunk catch - zinc
trunk catch bolts - phosphate/oil
trunk latch bolts - phosphate/oil
tail light housing - the housings are actually 2 pieces. For 68, the outside part is zinc dichromate and the inside part (bucket) is zinc.

Also, for 67 the tail light housing are zinc only.

Regards,
Pete Morgan

Thanks Pete!

It was a pleasant surprise to find the 68 was two piece.  Makes it much easier to plate.

I take it you didn't find enough pictures in the Unrestored Picture thread of the NJ car's

There is the

- 68 J code fastback, that shows the answers to the latch hardware, striker as well as hardware  and taillight housings

- 68 J code convertible striker as well as hardware  and taillight housings

If you need more just ask. pretty consistent given you didn't provide when you car was built so we could look closer for cars built around the same time period
