I recently had my glove box lock rekeyed and then installed it.
It seemed to work ok latch-wise but when I put the key in and turned it it locked ok, but then when I tried to unlock it again it just turns and turns in either dirrection and will not unlock.
Would anyone have an idea as to how I can get it unlocked or open the door itself w/o damage so I can try & do something with it?

My 64 Galaxie the glovebox key turns 180 degrees in the clockwise direction to a full stop. (un-locked postion)
Is your key doing the full 180 too a hard stop?

No, no hard stop, it just spins and spins freely in either dirrection now and stays locked.
I'm thinking I may have to destroy the liner and come through the back to open the door and remove the darn lock and will probably go with a non-locking latch now.......

have you tried unbolting the hinge from the bottom of the dash?? work the door back then unbolt the catch from the dash.

Lockable glovebox locks can be checked prior to installation:-
1. Latch the tongue of lock over,
2. Insert key and full turn 180 degree anticlockwise (locked) remove key and push on button-latch tongue should still be fixed.
3. Insert key, full turn clockwise push barrel in, latch should release.

carlite65: Is what you are suggesting to be done based on me destroying my liner to get to the hinge & latch? I really haven't climbed under the dash yet.....

no. you should be able to unbolt it from below.

If I recall correctly, on a 65-66, the glove box door hinges are inside the opening of the glove box. 67-68 hinges are attached on the bottom edge. I'm not sure what the best approach here without seeing it myself. You might have to sacrifice the glove box liner to get where you need to.

The path of least resistance is to get to those 2 hex screws at the top, that attach the "locking bar" that the latch captures.
You might can do that with 2 small holes in the cardboard glove box.

Yea, I'm thinking that I will have to sacrifice the liner in order to get the darn door open-I think thats the least damaging approach.-now I wonder what my locksmith did to the lock to make it this way-at least before it worked-just with the wrong key.

If the key spins in the lock cylinder, it usually means the tumbers have come loose.

With respect.....tumblers don't come loose. (impossible, regardless ignition,door, trunk or glovebox)
Have the locksmith call on you to fix his mistake.

My Glovebox lid is fastened to a Piano hinge from the inside, but the hinge is secured to the dash with the fasteners that can seen from under neath.
By removing the hinge fasteners can you tilt the lid from the bottom and undo the 2 strike screws.
Please note: I am referencing this material from my 64 Galaxie.
Glove box liners are secured from the inside----which means the screws ends are on the outside of liner, and can be turned with pliers.

I don't think the glove box lock uses the typical
tumblers that we know from the door and ignition
locks. I have one in the garage, I'll have to get it
out and look at it again to verify.

The glove box lock uses spring loaded brass levers.
Ignore the glovebox lock.
Entry will be by one of the following:-

Guys-Thanks for all the help and suggestions!!! I'll now have to wait until after the upcoming Mustangs and Mustangs show (Merv & Pat Rego) on April 17th to fool with this darn lock problem-and the locksmith lady that I used........I wouldn't usecall her again if she offered me a TRUCKLOAD of NOS locks for my trouble-she's that bad!!! (LOL)
