Can this be an accurate Spare
« on: April 19, 2010, 03:42:35 PM »
Is this an accurate spare for my car (assuming date code is prior to production)?
The seller claims it was removed from a 66 produced around mine.
All the ones I have ever seen have been whitewalls.

SPARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MID 1960'S FORD MUSTANG TIRE.  THIS TIRE CAME FACTORY EQUIPPED ON MID 1960'S FORD MUSTANG CARS FROM 1964 UNTIL AROUND 1967.  THE TIRE BRAND IS FIRESTONE "DELUXE CHAMPION" AND THE SIZE IS 6.95 14.  REMOVED FROM A RUNNING CAR AND STORED MANY YEARS.  LOOKS BEAUTIFUL FOR IT'S AGE.  PERFECT TO BRING THE TRUNK OF YOUR CLASSIC MUSTANG.  IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A SPARE WITH THE ORIGINAL TIRE THAT CAME FACTORY EQUIPPED ON YOUR CAR, HERE IT IS!!

the standard tire for 65-66 mustangs were black walls, white walls were an option. As for that being the correct tire for your car i would say no.All the original Firestones I have seen on or in unrestored 65-66 have had the pie crust edge. The style of that tire is more common in 67.that sayed it still may be correct for a late 66 depending on the date code on the tire.

If the car came with whitewalls and deluxe wire wheelcovers, could the spare be blackwall?

No, all 5 tires should match.

"All the original Firestones (Deluxe Champions) I have seen on or in unrestored 65-66 have had the pie crust edge."

Yup, That's correct.  We know that from original examples and original factory pictures from original assembly line photos of the period.

Firestone was not the only supplier for '65-'66...but it was the biggest one.
