Early San Jose C code Correct ignition coil location?
« on: May 01, 2015, 01:19:00 AM »
Early 67 FB, San Jose built, 289 2v
What is correct location(s) for ignition coil?
On the intake, Pass side, point forward?
On the pass side head by dip stick?
On the intake DS point to rear?

Thanks

Intake PS pointing forward on a thermactor equipped car, pass side head by dip stick for non-thermactor.

Hi,
I'm interested to know the position of the ignition on a 289 cui, 1967, A/C.

Mine is vertical mounted along the intake manifold.  :-\

Great to post some pictures. Ralf

COIL? Ignition coil?

The Thermactor equipped cars have the coil mounted on the intake, others on the front side of the passenger's head.

Not mine, but as an example (in my car the same position):
Read correctly your post, for all A/C cars the position is like shown below.

You don't mention if your car is a Thermactor equipped car or not but in this case its not going to matter

Guess you missed this example in doing a search ;) Visible in picture #2, #3 & #5  to start with

Yours would be the same  IMHO

No, don't have such a thing, despite my car was born end of 66 in CA.....thermactor=smog pump, I guess.
May be dismantled, or was simply not there.

Being built doesn't automatically = Thermactor the DSO does in 99.5% of the time

In any case the answer is in the pictures in those links I provided

DSO 75
In case of disassembly, there must be some plugs/screws in the cylinder header. I'll look....

Should not normally find any with that DSO unless the engine or heads have been replaced

75 typically means no Thermactor system in 67

Ok, thats a good statement to me. Means I don't have one (even the car is a SJ built)

Because I have read that all California (66/67) cars had to have this equipment due to law regulations in this State.

Ralf, not all cars built in California were delivered to California.  In your case the car was ordered through the Phoenix, Arizona district sales office.  Arizona did not require thermactor.  It would make sense that the car would be built in California rather than on the other side of the country when you consider shipping costs.

Coming back to this one.

What is the original colour (+ eng/part. number) of the early 67 ignition coil (in german Zündspule)?  Yellow cap, black body?

Thx
Ralf

Yes. a "mustard yellow" of sorts. There was a thread on repainting older coils to freshen them up. There is also a date stamping on original coils, often covered up with the mounting bracket.
