POR-15 Bay Black & Engine Paint

Has anyone used POR-15 Rust preventive paint (semi gloss) or Top coat chassis black for there 1970 engine bay? I would like to know if it looks like the original semi gloss used in the engine bays or not. And if anyone has used POR-15 Engine Enamel in the Ford Corporate Blue? does it look like the right blue for ford 1970 engines?

I have not used the POR-15, but I used Master Series Chassis Black & it is very glossy.

Don't know if I've ever seen one done with those products though I know some are using them - not sure if they are doing restorations.

Don't care for some of the other POR products since they don't apply (just my experiences) to restoring and original look or finishes. The rust products just got in the way

65Ford:
I would not recommend using POR15 for concours restoration.  The rust preventive coating is very glossy, thick, and hard to paint over if cured.  It is also not UV resistant.  The rust preventive coating does not stick well to clean bare steel and if you take a pressure washer to a panel which didn't have a rough surface when it was applied the POR15 will come off in sheets.  I used a garden hose on a clean steel toeboard I had painted with POR15 and it lifted off in sheets.  The product adheres well to rusty surfaces.

If you want to paint over POR15 you could use their Tie coat before it cures or spray a light dusting of primer before it cures.


For daily drivers it may be okay but I've used Masters series silver and their chassis black top coat and find them easier to use.  MS silver is UV resistant and paintable when cured.

My humble observation.

Frostbiten:
POR stands for "paint over rust". don't use it for your restoration, use it for your rustoration, its a great product for rusty applications.
