67 trim code 7U seat belt color......
« on: February 09, 2017, 02:06:02 AM »
When I pulled the belts from my wifes car they seem kinda dark to me for being Parchment and am wondering if they should be darker or lighter ?

2 or 3 but I'd hate to tell you incorrectly. Hard to tell true colors on screens

These scans are from "How To Restore Your Mustang" by Larry Dobbs and Donald Farr (1989) with more colors to dazzle your day. Seatbelts are shown as being colored the same as carpeting, and for code 7U as "Dark Parchment Irid - R/M number 5796". Choose wisely.

Well, the carpeting used with the Parchment interiors was black, and we know the seat belts definitely weren't black on the Parchment cars - so there goes that theory...

Brian, you might want to try contacting Bob Perkins at Perkins Restoration, as his 10,500 mile, unrestored '67 Convertible just happens to have a Deluxe Parchment interior.  It's hard to tell from the few photos I've seen of the interior of his car, but the seat belts look to be closer to the number 4 color option that Ssnake-Oyl offered you...

Good Luck!

So basically, we are saying here that the "carpeting should match the drapes"to be genuine or authentic?  :o ::) ;D ???

On a bit more serious note, I wish to add that the parchment 67's DID NOT in my opinion, come with black carpeting", I believe original examples were more beige in color.

Hi Richard - I respectfully have to disagree with you...

Please look at the two images below of Bob Perkins' unrestored '67 Convertible.
The carpet in his car looks pretty black to me...

In addition - my own '67 Convertible came with the 6U Deluxe Parchment interior, and it had black carpet in it as well.  Unfortunately, the original carpet was waterlogged and pretty moldy when I bought the car, so it was tossed-out over 34 years ago.  However, I still have some of the jute backing that was attached to the underside of the carpet, and the carpet label clearly says "BLACK" on it (see the 3rd photo)...

Cheers!

OK! ok! so the carpet doesn't match the drapes (on 67's with 'blonde drapes')  :P

I thought I had seen a few 67's that had beige carpets so I could then only assume those had been modified...that or my memory is shot! Perhaps it was the seat belts I am thinking were beige and the carpet was black. You don't find this color often enough 'unrestored' so I stand corrected. Thanks for the 'humble pie" but really, it tastes more like 'crow"  :o

Ok so we have that sorted out---The carpets don`t match the drapes---- And I did go with the #4 option and the paint option for the buckles was a direct match so now the the hard part.
I need to put them back in the car. Lets tackle the rears first.....
When I took them out I put all the bolts back in the holes and now i`m finding that the wife (and shop it was at) had them mixed up--a couple rears in the front and vice versa. Ok no worries there.
The shop manual is showing the rear outer with the webbing to the outside edge of the car and coming out between the 1/4 trim and the seat back---How the heck do you do that ? I have not been able to get it yet (looked at my 66 for reference and it works there but I can tell the metal end is different).
The inner end also is an issue ---the book shows it bolt on bottom with belt going up--if you do that then the seat back cardboard/insulation thing goes right over it and i`m not sure if you are supposed to bend the belt down over the bolt and forward OR should the belt be bolted down (forward) with the bolt at the top ?

Here's how I installed the rear seat belts on my '67 Convertible...

1 - The long belts (with the painted buckles) are installed using the bolt holes on either side of the transmission hump with the label side of the belt facing down (see photo 1 below).

2 - The shorter belts (with the chromed tongues) are bolted-in just below the rear quarter trim as shown in the second and third photos below.

3 - Photo 4 shows the belts with the rear seat installed.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Kevin,I ended up doing the same in the middle ,our car being a coupe is different on the outers and I ended up having them angled down to the outside and so the belts come up between the trim panel and seat pretty decently.
Your car does not have the retractors on the fronts correct ?

Correct - the inner rocker panels used on the convertibles don't leave enough room for the front retractor seat belts.
