1969 351w Shaker Bracket Real Or SEMO Re-pop?
« on: March 21, 2017, 03:55:12 AM »
I have this listed on EBAY and was told it is a SEMO re-pop. It is not my intent to rip anybody off so can someone verify if it is original or not? I'll pull the ad if it's not original. If nobody can answer I'll be at the Columbus swap meet in 10 days and try there.

Thanks!
Bill

Welcome to the site - hope that the information and assistance here will help you in your concours related projects.

IF you use the search feature you should find a discussions about such a bracket that was started only a few weeks back. Has a few pictures and might help in answering your questions

Thanks Jeff for the welcome. I saw the photos and compared them to mine and I can't see a difference. I'm hoping some experts can make a positive I.D.

I have a repo bracket (don't know who made it) that I can take a photo of tomorrow and add it here, might be a useful comparison

2v and 4v stampings look good to me on an iPhone 5 at least
Look for a crack where the horizontal meets the vertical metal
These brackets were weak a vibration crack is an original vintage part telltale

My observations of 351w shaker brackets; the strengthening groove on the repo on the left is not quite as well formed as on the original on the right, the groove is not in line with the top mounting slot, the 2v 4v font is different and in a different position. As mentioned above the used originals most likely have a crack.

Very nice photos!  Thanks for taking the time to post the photos. I spent a few dollars on these, and by coming to this site to bring it out in the open, it might help someone from getting ripped off like I did.
I  will just sell them as reproductions.....

Live and learn!

Before you sell them as repros, ask Semo if they 2V 4V stamp theirs.
Back when I bought an original, repros lacked that feature.
Maybe things have changed since then.
I always wondered why they wouldn't do that one final simple step, so maybe they do now.
