Transverse Dual Exhaust System HIPO Question

(1/5) > >>

rocket:
I have a NOS Dual Exhaust Muffler (C4ZA-5230-N) and an NOS H Pipe (see attached photo) for my 64.5 K Convertible. I have a pair of Exhaust Brackets (C3DZ-5260-A)

Can anyone tell me if these hangers are correct for the front and rear or what the correct 64.5 rear hanger number is and if they have been remanufactured.
Can anyone give me advise on the intermediate pipes that I need between the two. Do they have Resonators vs straight pipes vs mufflers. Is their a source for a remanufactured set of intermediate pipes? Cost etc.?

I am located in Concord/Charlotte NC.

Thanks

The hanger is kind of a generic application.  Most practical use would possibly be for replacing the rubber insulator on an original bracket.

If you have a 64.5, not sure if you noticed the muffler has a 10-64 (October '64) date.  The date may not matter, but thought it should be pointed out.

The prevailing belief is that all early K codes had oval muffler-like resonators in the intermediate pipes.  There are reproductions of the entire system that can be bought for a few hundred bucks give or take.  Most likely, if your car is built very late June until the fall of 64 the transverse system is correct.  The date I'm talking about here is not the data-plate planned date, but rather sometime after the latest date for a date stamped sheet metal part on the car, or whatever your build sheet says.  Last I checked there were reproductions of the hangers at the back of the floor pans, but the rear hangers were not.  The two at the rear are slightly different in shape.   Picture of my originals that were still on the car are attached - lower two hangers in the pic are the rears.

That said, the period Ford parts manual indicates that there were, on a few very early cars (first week of K code production), a different part number for the intermediate pipes/resonators.  Further complicating the matter is that the period Ford parts interchange manual lists a couple of engineering numbers that both map back to the same part number - AND I have seen a couple of original cars, with resonators that have engineering numbers that aren't even listed in the interchange manual.  I'm still sorting this out with some other knowledgeable folks like Bob Mannell, but one of the early owners of my 64 1/2 K convertible told me that the resonators that were originally on the car were shaped like cherry bombs.

The NOS resonators/intermediates are like hen's teeth to locate, though there are some NOS ones out there with stamped dates that are too late for a 64 1/2 if that doesn't bother you and you don't mind spending 2500 bucks for them.  The October 64 dated transverse mufflers are more common.  I've got an extra one of those, but the one that goes on my car is dated May 64 and it's one of only 2 that I have ever seen with a date of May or June.  You'll also need a tailpipe, the muffler has just one of the two attached, the other attaches with a clamp.

Thanks Charles

First of all I'm clueless and need help.

I'm at my starting point trying to determine what I need to do to obtain and install a Transverse system on my car. The only parts I have are the NOS H pipe and the transverse muffler. I know that the date code on the transverse muffler is late for my car. My car is a July 21st car.

All I have is a diagram that shows that the part numbers for the intermediate pipes are C5ZZ-5A213-B & C5ZZ-5A212-E and that the bracket for both front and rear are numbers are C3DZ-5260-A.
I don't have the original rear or front brackets for my car. I have been told that the rear brackets are different for a 64.5 K code than the 65s and that the rear hangers are no longer available.
I don't know what the originals looked like or if the hangers I attached in my post and listed above are correct for this application. I also don't know if finding the correct ones are even possible or if their is a work around.

So this was my starting point, any suggestions recommendations will be appreciated.
