Dearborn radiator strap code

(1/1)

Dragon7:
Sorry, but I've failed to find a thread or a reference for my question.

I have a VIN and doorplate confirmed 64-1/2 Dearborn Convertible, 260 V8 2V, 3-spd manual, production date July 20, 1964.

She has a square-strapped radiator that needs to be cleaned up, but is otherwise in pretty good condition.

The side strap is stamped DEP C4ZE 8005 A.

Can somebody please decode that for me?

Thanks!

First thanks at least for trying. Not every subject has been covered yet but we're all working on it :)

Now if you look at the thread shown at the bottom of this post way down in the first long post (might not have seen it) is a mention

***ANY ADDITIONAL 6-CYLINDER EXAMPLES NOT LISTED APPRECIATED!***

1964-1/2 6-cylinder Application ID (WORK IN PROGRESS):
C4ZE-
A = M/T (not verified) *found on W-MO 6-64 lid

First would expect that there would be a number following the final letter, most likely a "2"

Looking at a chart I have handy (can't swear of its clarity or connection to the original facts) that suggest that a C4ZE 8005 A2 was for a 6 cylinder application with a manual transmission.

Does the bottom hose from the engine enter the radiator on the drivers or passenger side?   Not that the bottom tank could not be swapped but looking for confirmation and a place to start.

Thanks for the welcome... and for the response.

Double-checked the strap stamp... no additional number/letter after the "A".
The lower hose is on the passenger side.

Thanks again!

Dragon7:
Ha! Got in there and looked at little closer.... there is a 3-digit code stamped (but barely visible) behind the "A"... ”4GD". So that would be 1964, July, 4th week, the way I understand it... which matches build date on door data plate.

Thanks again!

Dragon7:
So looking at the strap very closely, what I got is DEP C4ZE 8005 A1 4GD. It does have squared straps, but the "x's" aren't visible in the strap holes... Looks like it was re-welded/spot welded there.

Again, car is VIN and door plate verified 64-1/2 convertible Dearborn 260 V8, 2v, 3-spd manual, production date July 20, 1964, but no factory air.

Tried to get a pic of the strap, but kinda tight in there!

Thanks

~Ric G
