Is there a simple answer to when distributor castings went through the change of being marked Autolite to being marked FoMoCo or vise versa ? I haven't looked much as to the differences between the two (markings) but as combing through this part and many others this kind of ID and time frame comes into play.

No simple answer I am aware of .The transition on the distributors seemed to happened in the early part of the 67 model year relatively speaking. I have seen some bouncing back and forth of trademark during the early time period at least on some of the ones i have studied.  It also seemed to vary on the distributor application also. I have only studied the 289 hipo and 427 duel point . Those seem to have different change over times. Others will have to comment on different application change over times.

Thanks Bob, so the progression would be FoMoCo, Autolite, then Motorcraft, Motorcraft being service replacement parts ?

By 1972, I think that most if not all of the distributors were marked MOTORCRAFT.

Think its much easier to compare assembly dates on the dist in question (as long as it hasn't been restamped)  to get your answer and to find a usable one for your application
