repo fuel sending unit problem

i installed a new gas tank and fuel sending unit . when i tried to hook up the plug to the threaded stud it does not fit . i looked at my old one and it is longer and has a plastic bushing to make it fit snug . anyone had the same issue. what can i do

If your wire lead is larger in diameter than the threaded stud, simply wrap the stud with some solder and then slip the lead on.
Doncha just love repro stuff?
