Source for seat spring material
« on: October 17, 2010, 07:36:20 AM »
Found a local source (Brisbane, Australia) for the heavy seat bottom springs, but need a roll of the lighter gauge back spring material to repair frames before reupholstering... no one here seems to have it.

Anyone know of a source?  Happy to buy a roll (bought ~60'+ of the base) as I've got a transmission on the way and the shipper will drop it in the box if I get it to them....

I don't think that is it unobtainium it is just that most others reclaim the needed parts from other used salvage yard seats . Because of this there is no incentive for most restorers to investigate other sources IMHO. It isn't often that the seat / back springs wear out .  It is most often that the foam wears out and needs replaced. That is why you see that portion of the assembly offered at the retail level in catalogs etc.  I would be surprised if there wasn't any number of commercial upholstery supply houses that carried a suitable spring replacement. There is probably not many at the the retail level for the reasons I stated before. Bob

I've got 4 seat backs with bent or broken springs.  No pick-and-pulls here in Australia with Mustang seats waiting to be stripped.

Spoke to every auto upholsterer and major wholesaler here I could find, none carry the material.  As noted, just looking for a source to buy a roll.

Your situation is different then most of us here in the US. If all else fails you may have to contact some of the Mustang specialty salvage yards here in the US and buy the springs from them. Just a thought. The best of luck with your search. Bob

Any upholstery supply should be able to provide them. Here is an example.
