From the posting showing pictures of an original 5200 mile 68 that had finned front drums, it got me thinking maybe mine could still be original.

My one family owned, unrestored 1967 Coupe built April 1967 in San Jose has finned front brake drums.  I have owned it since 1980. When I got it, it had 116K miles.  I do not know if they have been replaced, but I was told that it should not have finned front drums.  I read the other discussions about some 68's having finned, is it possible mine came with finned drums being it is a late 67?

Are there any date codes on the drums?

You can clearly see smooth drums on a 1968 fastback assembly line photo, Dearborn car built in late 67. I tend to think all the Dearborn 68's had smooth drums, Metuchen's had some smooth and some finned. I've seen original junkyard 67's and 68's with smooth. I don't think anybody knows for sure, everybody is just guessing.

Finned front brake drums was a change implemented in the later throws of the 68 production cycle. I do not believe that your finned drums are original (also front drums made back then would not last 116,000 miles!)

All original Ford brake drums have the FoMoCo logo and a date code. Ones manufactured by Kelsey Hayes also have the K/H logo.

Looked at all the pictures I have of cars from your plant - your time period and could not find an original with finned brake drums

Thank you guys,
It looks like I will need to find a set of smooth front brake drums.
