68 windshield VIN tag
« on: January 27, 2011, 03:58:32 PM »
We all know that 68 was the first year which the windshield VIN tag was used.  Did Ford start this at the very beginning of the 68 production cycle?  I know of someone who has a 68 fastback which was built apparently in August of 67 but supposedly did not come with a windsheld VIN tag.  Is/was this possible?

Thanks

If there are no holes for the rivets and the unibody matches up right with the VIN, then probably just a transition period at the beginning of '68 production.

Never seen one - do you have a Marti report showing when the car was built and what assembly plant was it built at?

Think the lack of one (even without holes) might cause some issues in the future at some point since any DMV or police officer will be looking for one on the passenger side.  Due to this let us see where this goes and we'll try and help out

Actually, you see quite a few without, as may people tossed 'em back-in-the-day when they replaced a dash pad, easy to pull out the marginally rivited tag with the pad...  but agree they would all have come from the factory with one....
