So it looks as if the blue fan was a mid/late year thing for 65.

I have a 10/64 Dearborn fastback, what finish should the fan
and pulley be on my alternator?

Think it was more of a late 65 thing and very rare at that

Update: We've found them on 65 and 66 original examples

For your car

65-66 Alternator: Natural aluminum with semi-gloss black or zinc dichromate 13-blade fan and pulley. Late 65 may have blue fan and pulley.

Hehe, yep, seen that before, but your is probably about the latest production date so far.  Was common in late '65 production at Dearborn.

I have a blue fan and pulley on my late June 65 convertible.  However, I have only seen a blue fan with a blue pulley, not a black pulley.  Not questioning yours, just saying that I've never seen the black fan.  Like Charles said, that is late for the blue fan.

Yes, Dearborn.  As far as I know, the blue fan/pulley scheme is a Dearborn only thing.  Has anyone ever found them on a San Jose or Metuchen car?

Believe we have records of 4 or 5 San Jose cars with the blue fan and alternators (still a very very small number of cars out of tens of thousands) from San Jose during very late 65 into mid 66 production

I've seen a July '65 production San Jose car (Carryover '66 GT350) with a blue fan and black pulley too.

I would like to add a word of caution that as has been mentioned before the blue fan and or pulley is a anomaly and only represents a small fraction of normal production. Be prepared to document it and be able show reasonable proof that it came on YOUR car and not someone else's. Although interesting I don't think it adds anything aesthetically to engine compartment IMHO ;D. I would hate to see a lot of them popping up on restorations in a disproportionate amount as compared to actual production percentages. Bob

Just to keep this thread updated we found another blue fan example on an very early 66 San Jose example that was for sale online

Old and worn but the blue is still there in places

Still no answer as to why a very small percentage of alternators were built with these. As of this date I have 16 examples from 65-66 production all three plants
