I'm aware of the use of 302 blocks in some late 289 cars......Could a '67 April built car have a C8AE...block be its' original engine?

According to Bob Mannel's Mustang & Ford Small Block V8 1962-1969, a worthwhile purchase, page 7-4 paragraph 7A2 (b) ...A second Cleveland block with the casting number of C8OE-6015-A (c) appeared later in the production year - at least as early as May 1967. The C8OE-6015-A block was actually intended for the new 1968 302 v8, but Ford's Cleveland foundry began substituting the blocks into 289 engines late in 1967 production. These blocks were marked 302 in the lifter valley (d) and have been the subject of much debate over authenticity. However, a date code pre-dating the vehicle build date would confirm the block as correct.

It is not usual to see a 302 block used in the second half of the 68 production. I agree on checking the date code compared with the build date of the car.

Don't think your going to find one   As mentioned take a look at the casting date (right next to the casting/engineering number you provided. Also (just for fun) look at the date on the drivers side front side of the block - on the little projection where the head attaches. Think that will provide all you need

i don't believe there has been a legitimate C8 marked 289 hipo engine found.

Don't think your going to find one   As mentioned take a look at the casting date (right next to the casting/engineering number you provided. Also (just for fun) look at the date on the drivers side front side of the block - on the little projection where the head attaches. Think that will provide all you need

What Jeff is referring to is the assembly date metal stamped on the block. The picture shows where.
