65 Pedals with indents ?
« on: March 03, 2010, 08:49:58 PM »
On a late May 65 HiPo SJ car would the brake and clutch pedals have the indent around them or not?

Was there a change over date?

Thanks,

Dave

I don't know when the change occurred, but I can tell you that I have seen the no-indent pedals used at least until May '65.

Does that mean a late May car would or would not have the indented pedals?

Thanks,

Dave

I don't have any examples handy to make that kind of claim.  I think you would be ok with either in Concours, but it would be something you might want to try and study to get a better feel of what was right at that time period and assy. plant.

Dave,

I have seen an early July SJ car (carryover 66 GT350) with the early style brake and clutch pedal pads.  The accelerator pedal on the same car was the later style.  I have no reason to think that they are not original.

That said, I have seen another carryover car built a few days before that same car with all of the later "grooved" pedal pads.

Only two examples, but it makes me think that there was no specific "change over" date.  I believe a late May car would be a very tough, if not impossible, call, one way or the other.

If anyone has any more information on this subject, I would be very interested also.

Well, cars with the interior decor group like GT's. had the indents
already in March for the April 17, 1965 release and either Ford had
two types of pads as a matter of choice or they just used up the stock
of non-indent pads. If the latter, it could be any date and any car, right.

Agree that the indent pedal pads with stainless trim were installed in deluxe interior cars, but not on standard interior GT's.

You are probably right about them using up the old stock.  Based on what little information has been provided so far, I would guess the non-indent pedal pads ran almost through the end of the '65 model year on standard interior cars.

Thanks for the responses,
They make a repop of the clutch pedal without the indent but they don't make one for the disc brake w/o the indent and I didn't want to put only the clutch pedal on.
I have a set of NOS pedals with the indents so I guess I will use them.

Thanks again,

Dave

I was just looking at the interior pictures of Colin Comer's survivor 65 GT 350 , S/N 5S301 on his web site and it has indented pedals. This is probably a May built car.
