Snaps on Quarter Trim
« on: March 05, 2010, 08:04:41 PM »
Hi Folks,
I bought a pack of the Drake convertible quarter trim snaps.  I think they are concourse grade?  They came in a pack of 6, 3 for each side.

Well the base of them "flares out" in a conical fashion, making the snap part be higher from the surface.  Is this the right ones?  The ones shown in the AMK book don't look like that.

Also, the Osborne manual doesn't show the 4th snap on each side, the one that goes on the METAL part of the trim.
What does that one look like?  Is it one of the snaps with a Phillips screw down in it and does it have a nut and washer on the back?  I guess it COULD be a rivet-type too?  I think I remember it being the Philips screw-type.

The snaps that attach to the fiberglass part of the rear convertible quarters should have the flared base snaps with no phillips head or anything showing in the middle section, just smooth.  The snaps that go on the metal trim are the same, but have no flared base.

I don't know where you would get those.  I always leave them in place and tape up before painting the panels.

Thanks Charles,

I didn't take them off.  The PO did.

Bryan--Did you ever locate the correct two rivets for the metal trim portion?

No, I just used the old ones.  They were not TOO bad, but don't look new.

Bump back to the top--

Has anyone found a replacement source for these two snaps that go on the metal part of the interior quarter trim?

I'm ready to put mine back together and am looking at different options to get this detail correct.  :-\

Maybe try grinding the flare off the fiberglass piece snaps?

Since my original snaps were removed a long time ago I'm planning on switching the quarter trim from my '66 driver.  Hate to cannibalize one car for the other, but if no new snaps are available I'll make due with what I have... ::)

This is the part I'm talking about--note the missing snap that was removed on the top where the boot cover attaches too.
