ok....starting to see why I am confused...

I have 2 1970 convertibles

the 351W Oct built Met car  has a circuit breaker like this installed which appears is wrong

http://www.scottdrake.net/prod_details.aspx?prod_id=1856&breadcrumb=Convertible+Parts+%3a%3a+Electrical+%3a%3a+Convertible+Top+To+Switch+Circuit+Breaker

my 1970 351C June built Dearborn car does not have it but the owner had to straight wire it because the fusible link was bad?.......just got the car so trying to fix the prob.....but trying to fig out how to do correctly...

The Osborne 1970 Mustang Electrical manual pg 37 shows the circuit breaker but I have been told this is wrong?

it shows using this breaker....

The circuit breaker will work but is not what came on the assemblyline. The fuseable link is what was used on the Dearborn cars i am familiar with. It connected inline (plugged in) with the harness coming out of the firewall. The short link had a plug on one side and a terminal on the other end that connected to the power side of the starter solenoid. It is short about 6 inchs if I remember. I will try and remember to take a picture today.I think there is a repro source for them but can't remember where I saw it . I always try and use originals because they have a slightly different look. Bob

Thanks Bob....

I have had 3 1970 convertibles in last 3 years and all 3 used the inorrect circuit breaker setup so thats why I am confused.....

if you think of the source for the fuse link that attaches to the relay please let me know....

Scott Drake and the parts houses do not......

I just remembered and can't believe I forgot my friend Pete disher  www.thecoralsnake.com  . Go to his website and click on for sale. He sells all kind of wiring  including the convert power lead to the solenoid for 69/70. I don't know if you sells just the fusable link but wouldn't be surprised if he did. Bob

Bob and all,

could you take just a moment and read my thread over on VMF about this?

http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/vintage-mustang-forum/610839-1969-70-convertible-question.html

I am always a doubting thomas on these things....

It sure does look like my circuit breaker setup is original to my car but of course can't prove on a 40 year old car....

My car is a very late build.....June 1970....I am told all 70 convertibles built at Dearborn....

so maybe my convertible top wiring was a late change? My wiring is uncut from starter relay back thru firewall...

my option with the convience group may be a clue as another person on VMF posted the same wiring I have from his car......

It reads like the the fuselink is what others have found . I will be the first to admit I am not the best on 70 Mustang assesories as my experience is in the Shelby area where the 70 version is a updated 69 model. 69 I am 100% sure. 70 less then that. Bob

Bob,
....question about the Osborne assembly manuals......you know pg 37 of the 1970 Electrical Assembly Manual that shows the circuit breaker being used instead of a fusible link has a revison date of

12-23-69 and says it supercedes 11-24-69 effective with CZY1-RD-5222222

my cars build date is June 1970

maybe assume that it might have taken several more weeks for this revision to show up on the plant floor...........so maybe the circuit breaker is correct for a 70 convertible build Feb 1970 on?

Checked through my pictures and not much there,

This is from a 70 (170000 range) convertible - unfortunately, restored

I would check with Pete and see if he has the breaker version of the wiring. Bob
