Painted w/PPG Concept Poly
New 2 layers Burlap w/SS wires woven through
New foam
TMI Upholstery
It was my 1st attempt and I'm HAPPY!

Yes, I'm a do-it-all-myself kind of guy.  That's how I enjoy the hobby.  Paying someone else to do everything and seeing their handywork when I look at it, is not my idea of a hobby.

And...how do folks rationalize spending $50k hiring a car restored, when the car is only worth $25k?  It costs just as much, laborwise, to restore a 1966 6 cyl. as it does a 1968 Shelby GT500.

Would be interested in seeing a picture in sunlight.  The insert color looks kind of light.

Keep in mind that folks enjoy the hobby in different ways.  I wouldn't fault someone that pays to have their car restored.  There could be many reasons, such as physical disabilities or maybe some just accept their mechanical limitations.

You are exactly right Charles.  One man's diamond...is another man's rock!  I would never fault anyone for doing something any way they enjoy as long as it's legal!  HaHa.
I just said for ME...I have to do it myself.
I built and flew Radio Controlled Planes for 20+ years.  I would spend countless hours building the straightest and lightest models I possibly could.  Then I'd dream up an eye-catching color scheme and when I showed up at the field, I was excited for the reveal!  About 10 years ago, the hobby was practically overrun with a tidal wave of gorgeous, handbuilt models from China, that were straight, light, and flew well.  They could be had for half what I'd spend on mine, not counting my labor.   FOR ME...I just couldn't buy one of those and show up at the field with it.  BUT... I did enjoy hanging out with lots of guys who had them.

Here's a pic.  Does the insert look dark enough?  I'm pretty sure when I bought the car in 1978, the seats were original.  I remember them darker. Don't pay any attention to the back.  The PO had them done and the colors were all wrong.

Looks kind of dull and washed out.  The original vinyl was much more vibrant.

It does look nice, but hard to tell from the pics what the true color is.  Here's a pic of the same color interior... although from a '67.  It is original upholstery.

That's how dark I remember the inserts being, the best I can recall from the late 70's.
BUT...  The horizotal stitching in this picture looks awfully crooked for it to be original FORD.
Are yoiu absolutely sure the centers hadn't been replaced by an upholstery shop?
The thread looks very white, and and appear to be less per inch than factory.
IF the color IS correct, my new TMI inserts are way too light!

The cover is 100% original as are the front seats in the same car.
