Need help on battery hold down
« on: July 07, 2013, 09:10:23 PM »
I have a 1966 Coupe that I'm getting ready for Grand National show over labor day. I show in concourse driven.

Ay my last MCA National in Jacksonville in 2011, I lost a point for incorrect bolt on the battery holddown.

Could someone tell me what the proper bolt looks like.

Thanks for your help.

Would be better if you remove the bolt/nut and take a picture.  Hard to tell what you have when installed on the car.

Thanks Charles. I will get more detailed photos but it will most likely be next weekend before I'm able to get them.

I'll post these additional pics as soon as I can.

The carriage bolt could be a little longer and there is usually a locking nut to hold it to the battery tray.  There are some variances of fasteners used.

The bolt/clip I've seen on 65 and 66 San Jose built cars looks like the bolt/clip used to hold the rear center of the front fenders to a bracket on the "A" pillar, only longer. That fender bolt/clip in fact it is the same one used to hold the optional battery. The optional bolt/clip is p/n 379924-S2, 5/16-18X1 5/16 in long, the standard is p/n 380582-S2, 5/16-18X2.0 in long. The nut is 55736-S2, the same nut used for the horns. Because of battery acid leakage, the bolt/clip and nut get corroded to nothing in a short time. Replacements were almost anything. I recommend using some Permatex battery anti-corrosion spray in and around that area, and wipe it off for shows.
