Early 65 289 C4 Kick Down Bracket Finish
« on: April 09, 2016, 12:03:58 AM »
I'm in the process of reconstructing the throttle and automatic transmission linkage for an early 65 Fastback.  My car is a Dearborn built Fastback with an approximate build date of 9/2/64. It's equipped with a 289 and C4 automatic transmission.  I acquired an original bracket from a 260 (origins unknown) that attaches to the valve cover for the transmission kick down spring.  It was heavily coated with dirty grease.  I cleaned up the bracket and was wondering what was the original finish of the bracket?  While cleaning it looked like the bracket was painted black (engine black?).  I searched the forum and checked Mannel's book and it looks like this bracket should be black (inconclusive).  Can someone confirm this for me?

I believe it should be a natural finish, no black paint...Except the return spring should be black...

I'm used to seeing this piece painted black.

Pic from un-restored car.  I'm sure Mike M. could provide a better pic if not convinced.

Hmmm...  Based on Charles pic and while I was cleaning the part (with oven cleaner), I believe it was painted black.  I'm leaning that way unless someone can provide some conclusive evidence otherwise.  I'll hold off for awhile to paint to see if someone responds.  Thanks for everyone's help.  Much appreciated.
