68 GT500 Power steering question
« on: February 09, 2015, 09:03:16 AM »
Putting my 68 GT500 back togather and I can't figuar out the power steering bracket.  I'm talking about the indexing bracket on the rear of the pump.  In most pictures I see this bracket holds the pressure line, but my bracket holds the line it the up position?  This is the pump that came on the car, but after being apart for over 10 years, I can't remember this bracket holding the pressure hose.  If I use this bracket, the hose would have to go up from the pump then down to the power steering ram.  Does anyone have a picture of how this bracket is used on the GT500, or is this bracket even used of the 428s.

Thanks

Someone recently asked about that bracket for thier '68 KR, and I recall he was told it wasn't used for that application.  I'll see if I can find the link to the thread - to many forums, too few brain cells storing the data :-/

here is the link: http://www.428cobrajet.org/forum/index.php?topic=21947.0

I know this "answer" is more for CJ cars, so I don't know if this will help or not :-/

68 GT 500s and 500KRs never used an indexing bracket. 390 cars and 428 CJ Mustangs did

Thanks, Tim and Mike:

It was getting real tight at the rear of the power steering pump and the pressure hose sure wanted to go down and this bracket wanted to hold it in the up.

I though this car was very original but I'm finding out missing parts here and added parts there.  The car had a CJ fan, now who changes the fan?

Thanks Again

LOL!  I feel your pain!  Who changes the fan?  Well, in my case, someone who get the front of thier car all mashed up and destroys the original fan (among other expensive things).  Luckily mine also has a CJ fan and other CJ parts - they are just the wrong ones.

I think the 68 GT500 used the C60E-G didn't they?
