Title: 66 Metuchen Battery Ok Decal.
Post by: 66RavenGTCoupe on June 30, 2014, 01:26:44 AM
Wanted to start a thread on the placement of this decal as I could not find one on here . Thought I'd put it in here as it would get more views to start off and then I'm sure Jeff will move it to the Metuchen Assembly Plant section in time  ;)

You see the reason that I am curious to start this thread is because my previously unrestored Dec 07 1965 bucked 66 GT (NJ of course) had the decal placed on the rhs of the solenoid and I am yet to see another placed there. When I restored my bay I placed the decal in the exact same place as I had made a template prior to restoration. Now when I go to shows most guys who know mention it. I'd love to know if there are others out there and also what should be written / stamped on it. (Feel free to chime in here P. Beresford!)

any pictures you can provide to support your claim of where this sticker was placed prior to your resto.

my unrestored 66 NJ cars all seem to show shows signs of the decal being on the opposite side to what you are claiming.
(on one of Charles Turners previous restoration 65GT convertible I recall seeing him have the decal on the right side of the solenoid but that was a different assembly plant and year)

with regards to what should be written/stamped on the decal.  I have in previous restorations chose to leave it blank as I haven't seen any credible examples of what should or should be on there.  many cars know a days seem to have writing and a stamp on that decal.... maybe someone else can provide a example of what they have put on there car

Think Mike Murray may be one of the only persons who may have a picture from one of his unrestored 65 examples.  these decals perished very quickly so very few undamaged and legible examples now exist.

hope this helps out in someway.

Moved it to the 65-66 section - even more views and it fits just fine here ;)

Its not unusual for the decal placement to be a worker specific practice (where they got comfortable placing it for one reason or the other ) from my observation at any of the plants

Since I'm sitting here waiting for the afternoon game to begin here's some pictures ;)

Factory- someone was assigned to take a hydrometer reading then fill out the sticker and apply it to the car. The sticker was paper based with no protective coat so most didn't last that long and Ford really didn't care after it left the factory since the purpose appears to be in plant
