Title: 9 inch 3rd Member Castings
Post by: J_Speegle on August 02, 2009, 02:28:13 AM
Ran across the following during the last couple of weeks on the old auction site. Notice the oval raised area in the upper corner of the face.

Any one recognize this? is this a feature of a later (than the 60's) 3rd member castings?  I can't find others like this in my pictures and all the sellers are like this.

Here is what I'm typically finding on early 9 inch 3rd members. Notice the round raised area where the oval is in the picture above.

Thanks

Most likely is some sort of shift/plant code.  I've found the same thing on steering boxes, believe all 1960's Mustangs.

Can't find any pictures of that design on an early 65-69 9 inch. Thought it might be associated with a later casting feature since I can't find a match in anything  I have.

The round style is similar to casting features you can find on early Chevy blocks and such that identify dates and shifts.
