Is it just the driver's airbag or both driver and passenger?

JUST the drivers airbag. Not Passengers or side airbags (yet)

As far as "playing favorites" is concerned...Since I received my notice last week, I called to check on parts availability for our '05, maybe get on a "list" or whatever kind of "preferred" customers waiting list...No such thing. No list, no preferential treatment. (or so they are instructed to say)

As the notice says: "When parts are available, Ford Motor Company will send a letter to inform you the parts are available and to contact your dealer to schedule a repair."

Till then, as always... Drive DEFENSIVELY and watch out for any impaired drivers that might shoot out of nowhere to "get you"!  ;D

I received my notice last week also. The only problem I see is that my wife's '05 had the recall done last December. Doesn't say much for their record keeping ;D

My '05 was scheduled to get the airbag replaced last December but I couldn't fit it in. Last month my dealer said just as well because if I had it done then, it would need to be replaced again.  I would check before dismissing the notice on your wife's car.

OK, this situation can be confusing but I'll try to get it to make sense. The earlier recal (14B09) was to replace the inflators on some of the earlier cars. The newer recall (15S19) is to eventually replace all the 05-14 driver inflators [/i]when the parts become available[/i]. Since at this point Takata doesn't seem to know what exactly caused the problem, they will stiil the have to develop a solution. After that it will take some time to then make several million of them. Add to that the fact that most of the problems have been in high-humidity areas, and it gets complicated more by prioritizing the cars in the high-humidity regions. So the only 'fix' that can be performed right now is under the earlier (14B09) recall which will eventually be replaced by the eventual revised parts down the road. Got that so far?

When you come into the dealer most will run a report that will show any open programs on your car. Since we get paid by Ford to do them ( I am a Ford tech) we have NO reason not to unless A, you don't bring the car in or B, we cannot get the parts. We try to do our best to catch those even when customers don't mention the letters that are sitting in their junk mail pile and ignored (why would someone ignore a safety recall that costs you nothing, you say? Beats me.). Right now there are no parts for the final fix, so speculation of favoritism has no basis in fact here. You will get another letter from Ford Motor Co. The dealer has no part in it.

So that's the straight scoop. Nobody wants to have to be leery of the safety device in your face. Nobody wants to be told to wait. I wouldn't like it either. Waiting on Takata. So are several other manufacturers who use their bags.

Thanks for update on the recalls.

Another down side, the rental car companies have sidelined the Mustangs waiting for the recall to be done.  It's a liability issue.

So I got mine recall fixed this weekend for the driver side airbag.  Took only an hour to do although they wanted the car all day since they were busy but after yelling at the dealership I got them to get my car in and out in an hour.  Anyways, they said that a new recall notice is about to come out soon for the passenger side airbag.  Of course they don't have the parts yet for that recall, so more to come I can post the recall number when I get back home...
