Very Late 69 Features - Survey & Discussion
« on: February 26, 2018, 06:01:49 PM »
Going to try this in one thread rather than a dozen. If it doesn't work out we'll split topics individually. Will keep track of the reports and findings in this first post so that it is somewhat organized and findings are easier to keep a total of.  As always a work in progress.

So the focus is on 1970 features, parts and details that may have found their way into regular car production before the end of the 1969 production year.  We've heard claims and have seen evidence that some may have been introduced at specific car assembly plants in the weeks prior to the line being shut down for model year change over.

Please it your reporting a finding include a partial (at least) VIN and if available a real build date so we can organize and hopefully develop a range where the running change took place.

So far I'm aware of the following (what are typically referred to as 70 features) have been found on very, very late 69 production Mustangs, Shelby's and or Boss's. In no particular order. For these pictures the typical 69 version is shown to the left in the pictures and the typical (but found on 69 models) 70 features on the right.

1- Rear marker lights

Examples so far - (69 style) 9F22270x  (70 style) 9F2226xx - 9F22269x

2- Passenger forward inner fender panel (battery apron) Differences include a change in the panel for the 70 headlight housing and the "hump" for the battery L bracket.

3- Muffler/exhaust system?

4- Hood?

5- Bolt-in door glass?

6- Doors
Examples so far -  (69 Style) really don't need to list all the tens of thousands of these - (70 Style) 9F22270x

Switch from long to short deluxe door panel pull cups.

All the different 69/70 hood versions are covered well on Marcus's site, but I couldn't find mention of the 70 hood riveted backing strip for the 70 hood moulding.

Bolt in door glass in 69, no.
Early 70 was still using glue in.

Just to eliminate or reduce confusion the survey is not to compare the difference in parts used on 69 and 70 but the early introduction into production of what has been traditionally 70 parts during late 69 production and documenting those findings with unrestored cars if they exist.

This thread is a result of the subject of many of these features being mentioned in another thread on another subject

Will add a better intro to the first post in the morning when I'm thinking clearer :)

Never owned a 69 but have had early 70s with glue-in glass and three hump console lids.

1970 glue in glass is physically different than 1969 glue in glass for coupes and convertibles. The vertical trim moved from the rear of the door glass to the front of the quarter glass. Side glass is not interchangeable, needs to be all 1969 or all 1970. Glue in glass was used only for the first couple of months, changed to bolt in glass Oct/Nov 1969 plus or minus. I do not know about fast back door glass.

Might consider broadening the scope of this topic to something like " Very Late 69 / Very Early 70 Features Crossover Discussion".

Understand that we could have gone that route. Similar to the "64 1/2" features where some were continued in use for another 6 plus months.  Nut this one originated out of questions that came up over a year ago where guys were discovering things that were being used before they were suppose to be introduced so for now we'll keep this focus and expand out or do another  as the demand is seen
