0F05M139XXX 70 MACH1 Front End Rebuild
« on: January 20, 2018, 08:19:52 AM »
Hi All
I bought this 11/69 Dearborn 70 Mach1 just over a year ago as another weekend driver car I was not looking for a show car or some rusty wreck just a honest clean car. But knowing the engine was not in the best condition with a rough idle and low comp in one cylinder.
So after 3 months it was time to fix the motor and with the motor out and stripped down the only real problem is the cam and lifter have seen much better days ::).
Now with the engine out the bay looks a little sad it had been painted before like over brake lines and wiring and there was some rust under the battery tray so the decision to clean it up and repaint the bay and redone the outer wheel wells too.So pretty much from the front windshield forward was stripped down and paint stripped to see what was under the paint layers. It was interesting to find the different paint colours and factory numbers when the car was being assembled.
Now I am not doing a full concourse rebuild but as close as I can get it to a factory look and learning as I go.

Strip down.

Paint Strip

Sandblasting

There was some repairs on screw holes then Epoxy primer.

Lots of sanding and some seam sealing.

Paint time and I am not a painter but I am pretty happy with it.
The body deadener will be sprayed after the suspension back in.

Now it's time to clean and rebuild the steering & suspension.

This is the fun part putting it back together. :)

very nicew work on your car

very nice work on your car! I was wondering about your shock towers as they have the big block reinforcement wrap around the shock towers.
i thought only bosses and big blocks  came with these!

Can you remind use what plant and time period the car was built during. I think I know but it will help others viewing and reviewing at a later date

Thanks
