Shoe Retracting Assist Spring
« on: January 05, 2018, 12:42:22 AM »
Has anyone found a way to make one of these?  They seem to be the only spring not available as a replacement.  I got lucky and had a pair only because I hoard things - in this case for 30 years!

I tried to do a search but I failed miserably.  Sorry if already discussed.

Did you check rockauto or parts stores?  It's an uncommon item, but not too difficult to find.  They rarely go bad, usually from excessive brake wear causing metal to metal on the spring or something like that.  I have seen NOS ones on ebay.  Guess you know they are only used on front drum brakes.

I have a set from a 67 Mustang I just started parting out. I only just found these springs yesterday and thought "these are odd."
PM if anyone needs them. One is scuffed from some light rubbing. I'll measure the scuff and get back to you in a PM.
There will be no cost, just drop $10 or so into the Concours donation bucket.

Parts store and Rock auto do not have this spring and neither does NPD (or any other Mustang specialty parts stores).  I was lucky (or demented) to have a pair because I save the front drum set up from my first V8 fastback when I converted it to disc.  Incidentally, I had my pick-up front end aligned and the shop gave me a pair of 10" '69 Mustang drum set which also has the non-reproduced springs.  It's like a weird synchronicity going on...

I did some research (looked it up in the 75 MPC) and believe the part number is C2OZ-2035-D. This is based on that p/n as being shown in the illustrated section with base number of 2035 for that application and being the only front brake spring with a quantity of 2 in the parts section.
It seems that all the Ford brake springs have a base number of 2035, another great idea from Ford.
Having a Ford part number, even if it may be obsolete, would make it easier to find one.
