68-390 Engine details
« on: January 13, 2018, 09:31:36 AM »
Hey Folks,

I got the 68 all wet sanded and polished up and will be starting into the drivetrain this month.  I've done some research but can't seem to find many answers to my questions.  Most would probably be answered with a detailing guide.  And speaking of that, I see the Cobra Jet one that was recently posted (and incredible work, BTW!!!!!) and was curious if any of those details are applicable to my 68 390 4spd GT?  My car was built at Dearborn.   Are there any good photos out of there of a correctly detailed 68 390?  I'm curious as to things like overspray on the exhaust manifolds, bellhousing, painted dipstick, etc.  Thanks for any help!!!!  I just registered my car to be in the Class of 68 at MCACN this November.  I unveiled my A12 Super Bee last year and I took home a Gold, so I have a reputation to uphold!!! HA!!!!  Thanks guys.....

Cheers

Dave

A bunch of searches on this site,  VMF,  and a few others.  Seeing a fully restored or survivor car would answer most of my questions.  I'll keep on searching.

Agree with Pete the details will be very similar since they were built in the same plant along side so to speak.

Remember things like the valve cover gasket to stamped steel valve cover staples. Correct finishing of the PVS (ported vacuum switch), engine lift hooks will be different and heat shields and related parts are different. Think the vacuum hoses would be the solid stripes (Pete will confirm or correct) rather than the ones marked MX.

Just what comes to mind at the moment

Some might suggest using Mike's car as an example but consider that it was done a number of years ago and I'm pretty sure we would do some things differently if built today
