67 auto trans speedometer cable clamp
« on: March 29, 2018, 10:00:55 PM »
Please take a look at the clamp on my speedo cable.  The profile does not look right, like it is bent perhaps.  If someone can share a picture of something that is known to be correct it would be appreciated.  Thanks, John

John I also have thought they look bent but I think that is how it was designed.

My 67 SJ Ford labeled top loader manual trans version has the same type of bend.

Though service replacements it gives a good look at the shape from a number of angles

Yes, my 57 and 59 Fords both have this same kind of "animal".

I'll look at my new Drake and a NOS one I have, I think perhaps yours IS BENT from being overtightened. Look at Jeffs, the side where the bolt runs through is staight to a point where yours is not. Again, I have 2 new ones, one OE Ford so I'll look at them when I get home tonight.

Forgot...

but here is an eBay listing for a NOS (later/grey casing) with a STRAIGHT section like I described: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-68-NOS-Mustang-Shelby-Big-Block-4-Speed-Speedometer-Cable/232717024041?hash=item362f03fb29:g:TnkAAOSwuLZY1Q-3&vxp=mtr

So YES, IMHO, yours could stand being straightened along and only along the stretch where the bolt hole is at. Probably not uncommon to see them bent there, perhaps even on original examples but the part was not MANUFACTURED bent in that location.

Thanks for the replies.  I'll straighten it out.

The original encircles the cable, whereas the service replacement (NOS) is open ended so that it can fit over the cable.  Is that an accurate statement?
