'69 Firewall Different Between Power and Non-Power Brakes?
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:01:01 PM »
I'm restoring a '69 Mach 1 that was originally a manual drum brake car.  I want to convert it to disc brakes in the name of safety and driveability.  I plan to make the conversion look as original as possible, using as many original components as I can find.

Will I have to modify the firewall in order to install a power booster?  Also, does the brake pedal (this is an automatic car) differ between a power and manual brake car?

Thanks!

The opening is different (I think the early cars were line cut for clearance).

There is SO much info on this on the web  - from http://www.woodyg.com/fairlane/finfo/drumtodisc.html
to http://www.mustangsteve.com/fyi_brakepedals/msFAQbrakepedals.html

You are going to need a different proportioning valve ,master cylinder plus lines , pedal , intake port valve as well.

P.S.  Do you already have something like this ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/69-FORD-MUSTANG-NOS-BRAKE-BOOSTER-KIT-DRUM-C9ZZ-2A091-A-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e4665d63QQitemZ360314199395QQptZVintageQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_921

Mark, thanks for the websites, especially the MustangSteve one.  No, I don't already have a brake booster like the one in the eBay auction.
