Firewall Hole locations and sizes
« on: March 21, 2014, 04:07:02 PM »
Help please.

I have an original early 66 GT FB SJ car mid Sept 65. The old Firewall was replaced and now I am trying to put it back together. It has a 65 washer pump 2 wire harness with the large grommet through the firewall but there is no hole for that to fit on the new FW. Photo attached.

1)What size should it be to fit the 65 harness? I had another look at the plug, it appears to be 3/4 does that sound correct? If anyone can confirm that would be appreciated.

2) Where does the Fog light feed come through the FW?

Any idea what the small hole up and left of the headlight harness is for?

Thanks everyone.

Jeff

Hello Jeff;  Surprised the guys have not gotten to your questions.  My ride is a May 65 SJ car.  Couple of pics to get you going.  the GT/fog light wire is the smaller of the two and is a bullet connection.  The larger wire is for a alarm system.  Will be back with particulars later.  Brian

Remember my car was delivered to the new owner on May 29, 1965 and scheduled for June 1.  My car does not have a windshield washer but I assumed the small hole was for that set up.  Took a picture of the area and there is another dimple there for something ?  The GT fog light wire hole is 7 1/2" down and 1 1/8" over.  Brian

Thanks again Brian, Can anyone confirm the wiper location and size. It looks to be ~3/4 straight above the headlight harness but how much above I wonder?

Hello Jeff;  Surprised the guys have not gotten to your questions.............

Been doing a bunch of car inspections, phone calls and writing reports this week

To the request

Here are two pictures from that plant and period showing the holes and plugs and wires depending on application (GT or non GT)

Last picture is from a car much later in 66 around 159xxx. Hope this helps

Get all the cables in your possession that go thru the firewall, measure the "grip" on their grommets, then make the holes. That way the holes won't be too big.
