Leaking sump
« on: March 01, 2015, 05:16:37 AM »
Hi
Can I remove my sump from under the car or does the motor have to come out? If it comes out from underneath, will I damage the oil pump?
The car is a 69 Mach 1 351w fmx tranny
Cheers

You should be able to remove the sump/oil pan from the bottom of the car without pulling the engine. You'll have to remove the frame cross member and drop the drag link, tie rod ends and maybe the sway bar.

Besides taking the cross member loose (remember the notch on the crossmember goes to the P/S control valve side when putting back together) most likely just take the idler arm loose from the chassis and the drag link along with the tie rods will drop down together enough to get the oil pan out .
