Autolite 2100 C7DF-V
« on: April 13, 2017, 02:11:10 PM »
Looking for complete carburetor or good core with 7D V stamped into the base.  Application is for 67 Mustang (or Cougar) 289 with CA emissions and Thermactor.

I have my original, pictures attached.  C7DP -V (not C7DF-V) stamped on a brass tag.  The base is stamped with a number, not the C7DF-V.  Hope this helps in the search.

Unless of course I find out mine is not the original, and someone moved the tag over.  I would be surprised if that is the case, but it happens.

Same scenario as my car.  Somewhere along the line the carb was swapped out for a rebuild, probably more than once; it's a very high mileage car.  Brass tag (Thermactor carbs had brass tag) was transferred over and survived with the non-original carb.

Based on photos I've seen of an original, the 7D V is stamped in the base on the throttle linkage side.  Different carbs have different stampings; the one currently on my car is 9A A which I believe is from a 69 car.  This carb also has the incorrect Venturi size, 1.08 instead of 1.14 with the 7D V.   Sometimes the stampings are light and difficult to read.

Deuce, what makes you say the thermactor carbs came with a brass ID tag ?

See the Manell book; Appendix C, annotation & photo (g), p. C-2:  "California engines in 1966/1967 required T/E.  Ford distinguished these carburetors by using brass tags."

The above corroborates what's found on my 67 C-code with CA Thermactor Emissions system (Windsor 289 Level 15) and also 67gta289's Reply #1. The brass tag reads (photo attached):
AUTOLITE
C7DF V

Deuce,

If you look at your tag, notice the upturn on the lower horizontal line of that you think is the "F" of C7DF.  Then compare to mine.  I'm thinking yours is a C7DP like mine.   The date codes match too.

The shop manual lists C7DF-H or C7DF-N for "early" production, and C7DF-V for "late"

I don't see C7DP-V listed at all.

Do you see what I'm seeing?

John,

Until I saw your tag photo I was assuming that the F in C7DF on my tag was just a poor stamping.   Now with your example, I'm not so sure.

However, since C7DP-V isn't listed in the manuals at all and C7DF-V is, my thinking is that C7DF-V is correct and the "P" is another example of an unclear stamping.  Others might have different opinions.

With respective November and December 1966 production dates, I don't know whether our cars are considered "early" or "late."  Perhaps it has to do with a change to 289 Level 15?

I just looked through the January 67 single year MPC and neither show up.  Mine is a level 15 Cleveland assembled engine.

Of interest, West Coast Classic Cougar's description of C7DF-V (currently not in stock):

What started as a simple want ad has evolved into a substantive discussion about Autolite 2100 carburetors for emissions-equipped cars.  Might be worthwhile to move the thread to either 1967-1968 or Parts?

Thanks for posting Deuce I also have a brass tag carb (4V holley) but never knew the story behind it. Does anyone know when the green tags were retired ?

Hi

I sold a complete 67 2V Engine to a guy on Facebook last month for $250 (with the stand)...........there is a chance that he isn't using the 2V carb.  I will contact and get numbers and see if he will sell.

Yeah these guys on Facebook , post "looking for" then 5 show up for $200 BUT THEY DON"T LOOK LIKE MY CORES!
I tried to say it would be best to get a compete motor .....as you will need things like pulleys and bracket or alt cores!

Guy drove 10 hours so I was ok..

P.S.  One I have is a Mexican block from the 70's - hope that sells for a bit more (is a 4bl)
