1994 Cobra Oil Filter Judging correct part
« on: December 29, 2017, 09:09:37 PM »
I want to put the factory delivered style oil filter on my car for MCA judging. Not a " close enough " filter , the as built style. Anyone here a 1995/1995 expert ? The Cobra has a factory oil cooler . Thank you . Scott .

It should be a Motorcraft (embossed end cap) FL1A painted the same color as the block. Also acceptable would be a non painted same type filter with the appropriate date code for your build date. This may also help: http://www.mustang.org/showthread.php/2165-embossed-FL1A-oil-filter
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken.

That is incorrect.

If a 1994/1995 SVT Cobra Owner is still utilizing the factory "as built" oil cooler - which was only specific to the 1994/1995 Cobras, the correct Ford Motorcraft oil filter will be an FL-300.

The FL1A will barely fit, HOWEVER it will be extremely close to the sway bar and removing/installing will be a task - minor task - but it will cause some grief when trying to do oil changes.

Due to the factory style oil cooler block which is mounted to the engine block, this adapter is roughly 2.5" thick, which is why when trying to install an FL1A onto it, there is a very tight clearance issue if not minor contact with the front sway bar.

The FL-300 is the correct filter to be used with the stock 94/95 Cobra oil cooler.

IF the complete oil cooler assembly (cooling block, adapter to install block and steel tubing) has been removed from a 94/95 Cobra, then yes, the owner could install an FL1A.  It would not be correct for MCA Judging events or "Concours" correct.
