I recently read numerous articles about FORD Mustang's being exported i.e. Headlines like, "For the first time in six generations of Mustangs, Ford is putting the pony car on a trip to overseas markets"
What am I missing here? I know that Mustangs were exported to Germany in the mid 60's because of the T-5s. When was the first Mustang exported to Europe by Ford? I'm confused. I need help from a Mustang Historian. I know that many were "Gray" exports by owners i.e Military personnel.
But didn't Ford export non T-5s to European countries in the past?

Believe so - saw them over there. Remember your reading corporate "stuff" doesn't have to be always accurate just has to get someones interest and hopefully make money for Ford

Often these stories contain partial truths such as (1) first time Mustangs assembled at the final assembly plant to various foreign export specifications (rather than post assembly modifications in New Jersey that was typical through at least the late 1980s when I was involved) and (2) the first time making RH drive models at the factory.

I believe that the reference is to the fact, the vehicle is now considered "world class" due to the manufacturing procedure, l or r drive and compliance. Thats what was stated during the engineering and design of the current platform.

One of the first Mustangs in Europe was on display April 12, 1964 in Finnland. A White convertible with the VIN ending with 100122.
Sweden also got new Mustangs.

My 67 K Code Coupe was originally exported to Guatemala as noted on the buck tag. My Marti denotes "Owners manual in Spanish"
BTW, I'm still looking for a 1967 Mustang owners manual in Spanish in case anyone has one laying around. :)

One of the reasons for my interest about Mustang exports is, I have a 1964.5 K code convertible that had its Oil Changed in Zurich, Switzerland in July 29th 1965.
(See attached photograph of car’s original manual) written in the care schedule section, on the 6,000 – 12,000 mile coupon page. It reads 6209 miles on July 29 1965 and has a stamped “Garage Schanzenhof, Talstrasse 15, Zurich 1, Telephone, (051) 277755” in purple ink.
The car also has other physical evidence that it was in Europe in the early mid 60's.

Before we forget rocket - welcome to the site. You\ll find a few other threads discussing export cars here on the site. Have never owned one but worked on a few, have friends that have owned them and considered a few for purchase through choose otherwise
