So with the reference from someone on another board I am active on, I just picked up a barn....err...garage find.
It is a 1965 mustang convertable, 289-4V-4speed, traction lock, disc brake car.
All original, unrestored, and mostly untampered with.
76000 original miles, sitting since 1979
Ok, so I'm doing a little bragging. But hey I'm glad to get it and plan a mechanical restoration to get it running and the try to preserve the rest of it.

Wow man, very nice looking car, congrats.!

Good for you unrestored car are so cool.

Treasure find! Awesome and congratulations :)

What the heck is that thing by the shock tower?? Is that some type of regulator replacement? Or is it an alarm box?
-
On board computer...relay style.
Wonderful find...ok to brag, in my book.

There appears to be a lot of "poetic license" corrections in a 50 year plus life of not being restored. I went thru a similar "unrestored" 66 Hardtop several years back that had only 25 years of "poetic license". Good luck.

That is a very old school MSD. It is a capacitor ignition system. In the glove box is even the original documentation for it.
It is very cool but for reliability I'm not sure I want to trust 50 year old capacitors. So I plan to remove it and return the car to mostly as stock as I can.
I am really thinking of going ahead and buying the repo hoses, ignition wires and all just to help complete the image. I know I don't have to but I kind of feel like it.
Any thoughts on that?

Bob,
Those items would be normally replaced items and should not affect originality. (Rub some dirt on them.)

Congratulations - now the fun and work starts. What is the DSO since it appears the car entered (first registered) Calif in maybe 69

Chicago
Owner spent a year or less there before moving to CA
There is minor rust spots but nor really much worse than things I have seen on CA cars

Are you going to leave the outside with the original patina? I have a similar car with original paint, on the fence about what to do with it.

Sweet find!! and nice options to boot! 8)

From the master cyl looks like a disc brake car. Whats the color code?
