So I spoke to a representative from ECS Automotive Concepts and they are going to make a correct orange tag for the -K harness for me in case mine gets destroyed down the line. I don't know if this is a one off thing or if they are going to offer it on their website but glad someone took the time to make a correct part
-
Looks like ECS does not want to reproduce the tag right now since mine is the only example and they are basing there product on only one unrestored car. I told them they need have a range as there were three plants and running changes. So I said I would find more and send an example in. So if you have a coupe or fastback with backup lights and an orange tag. Post a picture
-
These first two posts were split from an earlier post so that we could focus on the subject of label color by doing a survey of all body styles and plants during the first year of Mustangs construction.. If you have an original loom and or car please take the time to look at it to see if the label still remains. Respond with the
- Projected build date
- Body type
- Plant
- Label color
- With back up lights or without
Pictures always are welcomed :) . We hope that we can provide some help and guidance for some better/ more correct labels if that is the finding
Also remember that there came be two labels at the end (passenger side rear taillight housing) of the loom. One the identification label with the part/engineering number and the second colored label that identified the supplier or assembler. Normally a color and number.
Thanks

Here is my info
Oct 29, 64 - Fastback - San Jose - Orange label - With back up lights 5R09A152XXX
-
Here is a friend's car
Nov 1964 - Coupe - San Jose - Green label - with back up lights - 5R07A161XXX

April 19, 65 - Coupe - Dearborn - Bright green label - With back up lights 5F07A69734x

As I previously entered: 5R09A2198xx, San Jose, Fastback, 11S scheduled date, GT (no backup lights), red label that is falling apart so I stopped.
Other things noted in the pictures:
5R07F10268x - Harness uses bullet connectors to a hardwired socket pigtail. I was under the impression that this type of harness was a later service replacement, and the hardwired socket was an aftermarket reproduction. The weld may indicate body damage.
5R07T14050x - The visible nut that retain the rear extension appears to be not painted, contrary to the "loose" attachment of the extension for painting.
5R09C15089x - The two visible nuts that retain the rear extension are not painted.
5R09C18005x - As above but with one visible nut not painted. Missing wedge spacer on outer stud.
5R08C18178x - Interesting nut in the upper left hand corner.
5R07T18740x - Also an unpainted extension nut.

Here is a picture of the label on my 65 GT 350. Pat White III here in Dallas, TX restored my original harness 25+ years ago
and I don't know if he reused the original label or not. Car is an early May 65 San Jose car being a Shelby has no back up lights, 5R09K217XXX

Sort of off the subject but common understanding is that not all of the nuts were installed so not all would have evidence or overspray of trunk color

So was looking at some pictures I had and here is a shot of Mike's unrestored honey gold convertible that has back up lights. I don't know his scheduled build date and I forget if it is a Dearborn car but I'm sure he can chime in.

VIn is 5F08C72755x which would place it 6 months off of your time period. In this example likley May 65

According to ECS or NPD it should be blue for convertibles with back up lights. So another example to show they are incorrect to assume they all had blue

Sorry for the delay - just figured out I had not posted my Dearborn pictures

Pretty sure (typical practice) that NPD is simply parroting what their supplier (ECS) is telling them is the application
And it appears they are right in a way but only for certain assembly periods

Would suggest red is a pretty safe guess based on when the car was built and the options

Results of the survey up to today
This is the second version. In this one I separated the coupe and fastback models and another pattern starts to appear but its easy to see more examples would help

....add another to the Red column for a San Jose Fastback. Without backup lights, Oct 1964 build date, 5R09K14xxxx.
...and yep, that's the original wiring & label with a pigtail repair. The original covering is pretty much gone in this area.

Not a lot of fastbacks with back up lights running around

Not a lot of fastbacks with back up lights running around
Well the survey is tilted that way since I have collected Shelby pictures also so that give a tilt to the limited results since they didn't come with the option
-
My '65 fastback follows convention:
SJ plant, with back up lights, VIN 5R09A1428xx, orange label (what's left of it).
