Title: Toploader paint
Post by: jtrue on June 10, 2017, 08:45:19 AM
Hi guys, I've been working on trying to get my transmission ready to reinstall. I painted it with cast blast. Were the shift linkage rods painted originally or left natural? Thanks

Mark

Mark,
Linkages were natural. That being said, the closest you can get to original AND prevent rust is a light phosphate and oil treatment. They should be dark, almost the same as the case, maybe a little darker for contrast. Cast Blast would not be my first choice for the case.

would the case stay natural with possibly the paint daubs applied then sprayed with boeshield then tamped dry? 1966 K GT, 10/65 SAN JOSE

Yes, but as Jim noted like the shift rods, a dunk in phosphate will give the case a more correct appearance.
