On the wire that that goes from the distributor to the coil, primary wire, what color is the plastic 90 degree fitting to the coil? Mine was broken off and I can recolor a replacement wire.

Took a few minutes to find it in the search. One thread showed the robins egg blue but in another thread ( a little deeper search of the information turned up what appears to be a running change from red to robins egg blue during the production year or at least the possibility IMHO
Believe these were posted in a prior thread. But this thread is related if you have a later car

Looking at these pics, I see there are red boots having a black wire and black boots having a red wire.
What were they thinking, or were they simply just not? ???

Sure a number of well paid engineers had a reason. Not sure why the wires and boots should match one another. Personally don't see anything odd with those combinations

Thanks Jeff, didn't it had a change. Mine is a March build.

Red for hot, black for not.

Red for hot, black for not.
Not certain that each of those are solid red or solid black so not sure if that "rule" applies. But I'm far from being a engineer or whomever designs these things ::)

There are many examples of 90* slip-on connectors with black molding that are definitely not grounds! All 1966 dash cluster slip-ons are black molded.

There is no rhyme or reason for Ford's use of colors on connectors. However, the color codes on wires seems to have some consistency. For example, the black-blue stripe wire used for door activated courtesy lights on 64-66 Mustangs is the same color wire on my 1999 E-250 Van. It's identified as wire "53" for both, and I assume for years in between. There are other wire colors that Ford used over the years, the green-yellow stripe wire, code "54", used for hot all the time lights, glove box for example, or a hot lead to the clock, for another example. It was strange when I was wiring my Van to see familiar colors for the same functions. It's probably Ford's desire to NOT reinvent the wheel for each model year.

I can certainly take solace in that consistency across the years.
I was just thinking for the priority ones, battery cables and coil wires, black and red should have been the go to choices.
