Quick question, I am restoring my lower metal dash and curious if someone can help a color vision impaired guy out..is the back side that you don't see like a gray or is this a faded black? My car is a sept built 69 from Dearborn. Thanks in advance!

Believe its the same finish as the front just not always as nice
-
Awesome, thanks Jeff!

The back side would only get some overspray from the front being painted. It was left bare metal. If you paint it, your attaching parts will not ground.

Agreed, that's why the only back side color I've seen is rust, including my own car :(

Agree - you guys just stated it clearer. like the overspray on the back side of many body panels there can be allot in some areas while little or none in many others
-
Roger that, thanks all!

I found a large 'A' on the lower flat area where the heater controls sit. As it rusted into the metal it looks to have been applied to the bare panel before painting. Out of curiosity, has anyone else come across it and my car is a Nov 69 Dearborn build with a console.

I pulled my lower dash out to paint, it was bare on the back side. So its rust colored. I cleaned and paint it with eastwood black rust encapsulator. My car was original and virgin with original carpet
