Title: 67 Engine ID sticker placement
Post by: J_Speegle on December 22, 2009, 07:54:49 PM
Since we sort of got off thread elsewhere I thought I would continue the information here since others would likely not find it on the other post if they were looking

We were discussing the original location of the engine ID sticker that was used as a quick method of identifying the completed engine for the workers. The metal tags were often hard to locate or difficult (since engine parts could be in the way) to read in an completely assembled engine. Since the engines were sent from the same engine assembly plant this this IMHO is likely a subject where the same details apply no matter where the car was built though any change dates would vary slightly

Here are two San Jose examples of the location of decal. Though it can not be read the location is clear on these two cars- drivers side valve cover, on the front face.

Now to confuse things it appears that at least Dearborn for a time attached them to the coil on A and C codes

Sorry don't know the VIN on this specific car - I do have another like this one (same location) unfortunately I agreed not to share pictures from that car and I can only ID the car as a 22 mile 67 Dearborn car but the sticker is located in exactly the same location

It was the Ford identification number for the engine. It apparently helped assemblyline workers identify engines at a glance easier then the metal engine tag. Not as much info as on the metal tag but basic info which would tell what cubic inch if auto or M/T 2V or 4V  etc.    As a example a 66 289 hipo M/T would be 246S . ECS sells the stickers direct or through their distributors. Bob

Does the I6 get one in 67 - Yes.

Remember- to all-  that these were originally torn off a roll similar to a roll of tape so the ends should have the jagged end as if torn off a similar dispenser

Also no all engine ID paper stickers are reproduced - hopefully the one you need will be.
