69 Engine Bay decals & tags
« on: April 19, 2015, 07:58:41 AM »
I have a 69 S Code 390 4V which was built in San Jose on July 15, 1969. Just wondering what decals and tags should show in the engine bay as the previous restoration that had been completed did not include any of these. Any assistance will be appreciated.

First DON"T BUY A DECAL KIT!  ;)

On lets see if I can get all of them from memory

1- Engine ID sticker - passenger side head front surface
2- Engine timing decal - drivers side valve cover outer surface below the breather
3- Battery inspection decal - black printing on basic sticker. No one sells on filled out commercially
4- Service decal - drivers side shock tower typically to right about inline between the two lower shock/spring cover bolt heads
5- Air cleaner cubic inch decal - top front center or lid
6- Autolite filter service decal - air cleaner base drivers side between dist dimple and vacuum door

Hope this helps

Thanks Jeff, are there supposed to be any number tags on the firewall? or were these not on San Jose cars.

I think your referring to the inspection stickers applied to the cowl and other areas - nope - not typical on 69 San Jose cars. They used other methods - that was Dearborn that used those - and that changed somewhat late 69

OK. What about a Dearborn 390? Is this list still the same?

Hope this helps

Also, what's the difference between ID tags K385S and K385T? They both show correct for a 1969 390 4V with an automatic transmission.

Since decals/stickers that were applied at the assembly plants they would differ in how they were filled out or sometimes supplier and often different locations while most if not all (depending on year  & plant) engine decals were applied at the engine assembly plant they would be more alike

Believe it reflects an internal engine variation that changed during the manufacturing year See response #`13

Ok. So where have you seen the engine ID tag? I've only seen it on the front of the drivers side valve cover.

For a 69 390 engine Have a question that may or not have a a bearing on the placement.

With or without the chrome engine accessory option?

From above

1- Engine ID sticker - passenger side head front surface

Same engine plant - different FE engine

According to one source the S = manual trans and the T = automatic trans
