67 gta s code April  67 SJ is the a positive  way to match the vin of the car to the engine  and transmission, the date codes in the castings are in the right time frame ,I am pretty sure its all original  pieces

For a pre-68 none 4 speed, non-K code (though I have seen some big blocks with stamped VIN's on them from San Jose) its the only way IMHO.

You coul also use features on the engine (if the engine was assembled for another application) as a possible indicator it came from some other vehicle if that was the case.

Jeff - where would I look to see if mine happens to have the VIN?

Thanks

No worries, Jeff. I appreciate the time and am in no hurry. I'm in MN and its going to be a couple of months before I get it out of storage. Thanks for the update.

I've found a very few on the front surface (just below the drivers side head) and at the rear.
