Shelby Console Lid, Need A Picture
« on: August 20, 2016, 08:52:14 PM »
I just got out the modified 1968 Shelby console that I have for my fastback.  It's been at least eight years since I've looked at it, but it's about time to install it.  I noticed that the lid looks like it locks down onto a peg or post, but my console is missing that.  Does anyone have a picture you could post so I can see what I need to get?

concours Shelby restorers can't find them when they need them for authentic restorations so I would not hold out for a original piece if I were you. They are like hens teeth. It is a small contoured shaped post as you suspect that when the lid is closed squeezes in between two sides of a spring clip . Something along those lines will look similar. Basically make something that will work given the rarity of the original part IMO. This explanation will have to do until I can take a picture or someone else posts.

Thanks, that's what I figured it was.  No, I don't need an original piece, just something that might work.  Guess I'll check out the hardware and hobby shops and see what I can find.  But, a picture will help, too.

I do have the spring clip in place in the lid.

Check Branda Performance on the off chance they offer something. Best of luck.

Actually, they do.  I was given a link to the post for the part at Branda.  I'm not sure how the clip works to hold the post, but I guess I'll find out.  But, at $26, I think I'll see if I can something at Ace Hardware that might work first. :)

Laurie, will something like the bottom picture , in the attached pic, work?   It's called a boot floor stud.  It fits the trunk (boot) floor of a Lotus Elan.   Can be
obtained at any Lotus vendor, such as www.rdent.com

Thanks, that does look like it would work.  I'll check it out.
