You may have a hard time given they were typically AM 8 track and not FM 8 track . ;) I have not seen a 1960's or 70 factory Ford FM 8 track.

The first time this Option was offered by Ford was 1973. Probably available after that (I don't have any documentation after 1973), but most likely very different physically.

Attached is from the 1973 Ford Accessory Catalog (For some reason, Reply is not allowing picture attachment. If you need a copy of it, PM me your email address and I will send it).

There are period aftermarket underdash FM 8 track radios available. Some of the lower quality ones are going to have bad capacitors by now. I've had great luck with Craig and Lear Jet aftermarket FM 8 track radios. If you have a place to mount one under the dash they provide a great looking period correct way to get FM radio or to listen to 8 track tapes. I have even purchased them NOS in the original box off eBay. Prices have been anywhere from reasonable to negligible.

To each their own but I thought I would mention so that it here is no confusion ,a period correct part is different from a concours correct part. Just mentioning it because of the main focus of this forum is factory items and build technologies.

Is there a points deduction for period aftermarket underdash radios that do not replace the original in dash unit in MCA judging?

+1, which is why I specifically noted "offered by Ford".

Jim : As for your "Test", in looking at my Accessory folders, it looks like I scanned the 1973 in 600 dpi, which resulted in the page I was going to attach, being almost 6 MB ! Too big to attach.
However, in looking a little deeper (looking at my 1973-77 MPC), for 1973, the AM-FM Stereo Tape Player was only available in Full=Size Fords and Thunderbirds. The AM-FM Stereo Tape {layer was available for Mustangs from 1974-77 (and probably after that also).

Some enthusiasts solve the problem by having the AM 8 track converted to AM/FM along with blue tooth to play music stored on your phone etc. From the outside it looks stock but a few twists of the dial you have access to the added features besides the 8 track. Every so often you see them on Ebay . I think the typical conversion is 3-400.00 and you supply the radio unit.
