Topic: Convertible windshield moldings, clip locations?

Has anyone run into issues on a '68 with the convertible stainless molding clips not lining up with the clips on the windshield surround?  I'm working on a '68 Shelby and on the driver side, the top and bottom clips on the car are not lining up with the clips on the molding.  On the passenger side, just the top one didn't line up... which I can live with.  I noticed in the assembly manual that the side moldings call for a C7ZB number, so suppose there was a change from 65-66 to 67-68?

There were no issues with the windshield area on this car, the original rivets were all in place and correct clips installed before the glass went in.

Probably something I would have run into before, but maybe got lucky and did not have a car that had mixed-n-matched moldings?

Car in question is a late April '68 Metuchen build.

I think I have a set of moldings around. I am not sure if there are any part numbers but I can measure the clip locations.
I will look for then tomorrow.

Been looking around at pics and not seeing any differences in the clip locations (on the moldings).

Just checked... the actual build date of the car was April 22, 1968.... a Monday

It may be easier to move the clips but I am not sure if you can with out pulling the widshield

Charles, I think on the molding side , the clips float and can be adjusted? or are they tack welded? cant tell from you picture

I concur with Pete (aka coralshake), the clips on the stainless move.

I disagree on the moving, there are 3 notched out areas on the moldings where the V shaped clips fit into.  If they are moved out into other areas, they'll be more prone to slipping off.

Additional pics, showing more clearly how screwed up it is.  Also pics showing the notches and one of the V clips.  The blue tape on the windshield has arrows that point to where the rivet studs are located.

Wow that is way off! I have seen miss placed studs before but they were on coupes or fastbacks so it did not matter that much.The molding that I have has clip locations just like yours.
 I do not see any other way to properly fix it with out relocating the clips on the body. I have used the 65 clip screws to fix broken or missing studs.
 Originally there must have been enough sealant to keep it in place.

Is it possible that the convertible side moldings are different during the 4.5 years and what you have doesn't match the car?  Did this molding come off of this car?  I take it this molding doesn't have a part number on it.

That was what I originally asked... but having looked through a bunch of originals, I don't believe the clip location changed.  I know at least one of the moldings is the original as it still had a little orange paint over-spray on the back edge from when the car was painted orange in the early 70's.

If it was originally on the car, how was it attached, given the location of the clips and the rivet locations?  When you cleaned up the molding, were the clips where they are now?  Is there any chance the left and right moldings are swapped, or are the rivet locations the same left and right?
