Battery tray and fuel line bracket
« on: October 12, 2010, 11:46:42 PM »
The questions pertain to a Dearborn built 68.

Is the battery tray sprayed or dipped black?

There is a 8" long bracket holding the fuel line below the footbox behind the drivers seat. What is the finish.

The 67-68 original battery trays that I have worked with appear to be dipped.

The finish of the fuel line protector varies from plant to plant, year to year, and even during the model year. Usually, you can find tell-tale traces of paint or no-paint on the inside of the bracket. The two acceptable finishes are bare steel or semi-gloss black.

Peter thanks. If the fuel bracket was black then it probably would have been dipped?

Is this the current thinking for a Dearborn battery tray that a dipped in paint appearance would be expected ?

It is pretty hard to see that kind of detail in the car under a battery. Possibly in the Tbred class.

Given the thin paint used there are not paint drips typically evident on originals if that is your concern. It is however typically a slightly shinier sheen compared to semi gloss black.
